By Free.ca ·

From world-class museums to outdoor festivals, Toronto offers hundreds of free activities every month. Here is what to do this month.

Toronto is one of the most expensive cities in Canada, but it also offers an incredible array of free activities for those who know where to look. From free museum days to outdoor festivals, public art, and community events, you can have an amazing time in Toronto without spending a cent.

Free Museum and Gallery Days

The Art Gallery of Ontario is free for visitors twenty-five and under at all times. For everyone else, Wednesday evenings from six to nine PM are free. The AGO houses over ninety-five thousand works of art, including Canadian, Indigenous, European, and contemporary collections. One free visit barely scratches the surface.

The Royal Ontario Museum offers free admission on the third Tuesday of every month. The Aga Khan Museum offers free admission on Wednesday evenings. The Textile Museum of Canada has pay-what-you-can admission on Wednesday evenings. The Bata Shoe Museum and the Gardiner Museum also offer periodic free admission days — check their websites for current schedules.

Outdoor Spaces and Parks

The Toronto Islands are a free ferry ride for pedestrians and offer beaches, walking trails, and stunning skyline views. High Park, Toronto's largest public park, includes a free zoo, nature trails, playgrounds, and beautiful gardens including the famous cherry blossoms in spring. The Don Valley trails system provides kilometres of free hiking and cycling paths through urban ravines.

Nathan Phillips Square hosts free events throughout the year, including concerts, markets, and seasonal celebrations. Harbourfront Centre offers free cultural programming year-round, with music, dance, art exhibitions, and festivals. The Bentway beneath the Gardiner Expressway hosts free skating in winter and art installations and markets in summer.

Community Events and Festivals

Toronto hosts hundreds of free festivals annually. Summer brings Taste of the Danforth, Caribana parade viewing, Toronto Jazz Festival free stages, and Nuit Blanche. Winter features the Cavalcade of Lights, Toronto Christmas Market browsing, and the Winter Stations art installation at the beaches.

Free concerts happen regularly at Yonge-Dundas Square, David Pecaut Square, and various parks. The Toronto Public Library system hosts hundreds of free events monthly, including author readings, film screenings, workshops, and children's programs at branches across the city.

Food and Drink Experiences

St. Lawrence Market offers free tastings from vendors, especially on Saturday mornings. Kensington Market provides a walking tour experience with free samples from various food vendors.
